ETP for Paper Industry

The paper industry is one of the most water-intensive sectors, using significant volumes of fresh water for pulp processing, fiber transport, and paper formation. Consequently, it generates a large quantity of chemical-laden wastewater that must be treated before disposal or reuse.

Our advanced ETP systems for the paper industry are engineered to meet CPCB/SPCB norms, ensuring effective removal of solids, chemicals, and organics, while enabling water reuse and reduced environmental impact.

Why ETP is Essential for Paper Mills

Paper mill effluent typically contains:

  • High levels of COD, TSS, and color

  • Harmful organohalides (AOX), phosphorus, and nitrogen

  • Contaminants from bleaching, sizing, and chemical treatment processes

If not treated properly, this wastewater can cause serious environmental damage, health risks, and regulatory violations.

Overview of the ETP Process

1. Collection & Equalization

  • All wastewater streams are collected in an underground tank

  • Bar screen removes large debris

  • Oil and grease trap eliminates floating waste

  • Air agitation ensures uniform mixing

2. Chemical Treatment

  • Effluent is transferred to a flash mixer

  • Coagulants and flocculants are dosed using automatic pumps

  • Water flows into a clari-flocculator tank for solid settling

3. Solid Separation

  • Tube settler separates sludge, which is sent to drying beds or filter press

  • Dewatered sludge is safely disposed of in authorized landfills

4. Biological and Filtration Treatment

  • Treated water passes through biological systems

  • Then through a Dual Media Filter (DMF) to remove suspended particles

  • Followed by an Activated Carbon Filter (ACF) to remove color and odor

5. Final Treatment and Reuse

  • Chlorine dosing for disinfection (if required)

  • Treated water stored in Treated Water Holding Tank (TWHT)

  • Reused for process needs or horticultural purposes

Wastewater Characteristics Before and After Treatment
